Cut Daffodil Care: Bud to Blossom
Daffodils are harvested when they reach “gooseneck” stage as in the photo on the left, so your fresh bunches may look a little underwhelming at first. No worries, in a warm room they will open to oohs and aahhs in just a few hours to overnight, often refining as they mature. Display your blooms out of the sun and away from heat. Cooler and less light is always better to prolong vase life; under optimal conditions, your fresh daffodils can last at least a week.
If you want to postpone opening or prolong vase life, just store them in a cool area such as an unheated garage, above freezing, and bring indoors when you are ready to enjoy them.
(Never store with ripening fruit, it will ruin the buds.)
Our daffodils are delivered pre-conditioned, which means the gooey sap from the stem has been allowed to drain. Daffodils look great all on their own, but preconditioned, they can be paired with other types of flowers. If you must cut the stems, be sure to separate them out to stand in clean water for several hours to re-condition before allowing them back in a vase with other flowers.
Please note: All parts of daffodils are considered toxic to people and animals.
